PADRES SLIDE INTO A NEW RADIO HOME: INK $20M FOUR YEAR DEAL

The Padres will "switch radio stations beginning with
the 2000 season" in a new four-year deal with KOGO-AM,
according to Jay Posner of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE.
KOGO's parent company, Clear Channel Communications, is
paying the Padres $20M over the next four years in rights
and promotional fees, and sources said the deal is "about"
$4M more than current partner KFMB's offer. The Padres also
extended the contract of play-by-play announcer Jerry
Coleman by three years. But the status of Coleman's
broadcasting partner, Ted Leitner, is undecided, as he is
"under contract to KFMB" through May 31, 2000. KFMB
President & COO Ed Trimble: "It's not our desire for Ted to
leave. ... We have to try to do some type of relationship
where we can all live with it" (S.D. UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/11).
