HOMEWARD BOUND? 'CANES NEW ARENA MAY BE READY BY OCTOBER

The Hurricanes "expect to be playing at their new home"
in Raleigh in October, but whether the Entertainment and
Sports Arena will be ready by opening night on October 1 is
"still open to question," according to Cecil Harris of the
Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. Team GM Jim Rutherford: "I've been
told the date will be Oct. 28 or 29." VP/Arena Management
Sims Hinds said that, "As far as we're concerned, it will be
(ready). ... We're not expecting to lose any regular-season
games." If the arena is not ready on time, the Hurricanes
said that "a return to Greensboro on a per-game basis is an
option." Another option is the 10,000-seat Crown Center in
Fayetteville, "a move that would bring the team closer to
its fan base" in the Raleigh area (NEWS & OBSERVER, 5/11).
