BUMPS, SEDANS, SPIKES: TWO VOLLEYBALL EVENTS GET BACKING

          The Alero Beach Volleyball Series, which will be
     announced today in CA, will feature nine USA Volleyball-
     sanctioned $100,000 tournaments in '99 and 2000, according
     to USA TODAY.  The series is sponsored by General Motors and
     launches with a May 13-16 men's and women's event in
     Huntington Beach, CA.  All of the tournaments will be
     broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2 (USA TODAY, 4/28).
          SUNSHINE STATE OF MIND: Chrysler has signed with ESPN
     Int'l to become the title sponsor of the '99 Americas Cup
     Volleyball tournament to be held in Orlando, St. Petersburg
     and Tampa in October.  ESPN Int'l organizes, produces and
     airs the event.  In addition to title sponsorship rights,
     Chrysler receives on-site brand display, commercial spots
     and sponsorship of in-program features (ESPN Int'l).
