ON CART: FEDEX'S NEW TV SPOTS; IS VALVOLINE SEEKING AN OUT?

While some CART "supporters" have been "complaining of
late" that FedEx has yet to produce a TV campaign tied to
its 16-month-old entitlement of the racing circuit, two ads
"pushing the FedEx/CART link are in the works," according to
Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK. One of the spots, from BBDO-NY,
"may ruffle some feathers at CART, since it will show car
crashes from races to illustrate the point that FedEx can
deliver without a scratch." The other spot, via Rubin
Postaer & Associates, takes place inside a FedEx storefront
and features driver Jimmy Vasser (BRANDWEEK, 4/26).
SLICK MOVE: In Winston-Salem, Mike Mulhern reports that
sources say Valvoline "may join" Pennzoil "in pulling out"
of CART, as "those in the know" said that Valvoline will
spend money earmarked for CART on the new Matt Kenseth-Jack
Roush Winston Cup team (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 4/27).
RAMBLIN' MEN AND WOMEN: NASCAR announced the lineup of
artists that will join the Allman Brothers at the NASCAR
Rocks Festival at amphitheaters this summer, which opens
June 12 in Denver and ends September 5. Lucinda Williams,
Susan Tedeshi, Mary Cutrufello and Curtis Stigers are among
the acts, with more to be announced (USA TODAY, 4/27).
