NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Rockets F SCOTTIE PIPPEN was arrested on "suspicion of
     driving while intoxicated" early this morning, after running
     a red light at "about" 1:30am in downtown Houston.  Police
     said Pippen "refused a breathalyzer test" and was booked on
     suspicion of DWI and released just before 7:00am (AP, 4/22).
     ...The MICHAEL JORDAN FLIGHT SCHOOL, a basketball camp for
     adults, will be held at Bally's Las Vegas Hotel from
     September 3-6.  A portion of the proceeds from the event will
     benefit America's Promise - The Alliance For Youth, which is
     led by COLIN POWELL (FAME).  The four-day camp will cost
     $15,000 and will accept 80 applicants, who must be at least
     35-years-old (BLOOMBERG, 4/20)....The BOSTON HERALD is
     running a five-part series examining "why there is such
     skepticism, cynicism and negativity surrounding sports,"
     examining "the relationship between athletes and the media,
     athletes and fans, and how those relationships have changed
     over time" (BOSTON HERALD, 4/22)....Former Padres player DAN
     JONES was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame.  Jones is the
     Business Dir of Nike's cross-training division (THE DAILY).
     ...WNBA President VAL ACKERMAN is interviewed in FAST COMPANY
     and says that "attendance ... is the metric that helps me
     gauge the health of our business."  Ackerman: "Obviously,
     attendance generates revenue, but it also generates team
     morale and sales momentum" (FAST COMPANY, 5/99)....LINDA
     POSTLETHWAITE has been awarded $2.7M by a jury for injuries
     she suffered after being struck in the face by a warmup pitch
     by former Phillies P MITCH WILLIAMS at Pro Player Stadium in
     '93 (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 4/22). ...PERCY "MASTER P"
     MILLER was profiled by ESPN.com's David Aldridge, who writes,
     "I spent a couple of days with him during the [NBA] lockout.
     ... Here's what you need to know about him: He's smart, he's
     rich and he knows how to delegate.  A deadly trifecta for
     other agencies, but something that shouldn't bother general
     managers in the least" (ESPN.com, 4/21)....Cavaliers GM WAYNE
     EMBRY is "considering an offer" to write a book about his 40-
     plus years as an NBA player and exec (PLAIN-DEALER, 4/21).
