THE DOMINGO EFFECT: SPANISH TENOR EYES UNITED INVESTMENT

Spanish tenor Placido Domingo "has expressed an
interest in investing" in DC United, and "is the biggest
name to surface since Washington Soccer put its operating
rights on the market early this year," according to sources
of Steven Goff of the WASHINGTON POST. Washington Soccer is
selling their rights to the United for an "estimated" $25M,
and Domingo "wants to join other prospective investors" to
operate the team. Also interested in the team's rights is
VA-based environmental services firm World Resources Co.
President Peter Halpin. Washington Soccer consists of Soros
Fund Management and British sports marketing company
Octagon. Meanwhile, RFK GM Jim Dalrymple said that police
"will have a greater presence" in the stadium for Saturday's
     Revolution-United game (WASHINGTON POST, 4/22).
