REEBOK KICKS BACK AGAINST RENEGADE ONLINE VENDORS

Reebok Int'l will "handpick a select group" of online
vendors to sell its products in an "effort to assume greater
control of its online sales," according to Bernhard Warner
of the INDUSTRY STANDARD. Reebok VP/Global e-Commerce &
Direct Marketing Roger Wood: "With the Internet, you no
longer control your face to the consumer. There are a lot
of electronic pawn shops out there and it's up to the
manufacturer ... to control the flow of excess product to
the consumer." Reebok will dub "approved" online vendors as
"Certified Reebok Internet Partners." The program will
apply to "Web-only merchants as well as retailers with both
an online and brick-and-mortar presence." Reebok will not
seek legal action against individual vendors for the
"unapproved sale of products" (INDUSTRY STANDARD, 4/15).
