CONFLICTING SITUATIONS: 'CANES FACE TV VOID IN GREENSBORO

The Hurricanes' first-round Stanley Cup Playoff Games
4, 6 and 7 in the Greensboro, NC, TV area are "only"
available on WXIV-TV, a Reidsville-based station that "is
not part of the Time Warner Cable system that serves" the
market, according to Todd Graff of the Greensboro NEWS &
RECORD. Team Senior Dir of Marketing Communications Ken
Lehner said that there "were conflicts in scheduling with
HTS and Fox Sports South," which are contractually obligated
to televise at least two games, but will show only Game 5.
ESPN/ESPN2 will televise Games 1-3, and Lehner said that the
team has requested that the ESPN feed be received throughout
Greensboro, avoiding a blackout (NEWS & RECORD, 4/20).
NO BULL MARKET: In Chicago, John Jackson writes that
when Bulls and White Sox games overlap -- as is the case
tonight, Wednesday and Friday -- the White Sox game will air
live on WMVP-AM, with the Bulls game aired on tape delay.
Jackson: "A source said the Bulls' broadcasts were offered
to other stations, but no takers were found" (CHICAGO SUN-
TIMES, 4/20)....In Toronto, Rob Longley writes that CTV
SportsNet could have "as many as three" Blue Jays games
conflict with its Stanley Cup Playoff action. SportsNet may
switch Jays games to CTV, or the Jays flagship CFTO, since
its hockey coverage is "on a high." Thursday's Rangers-
Senators game, Wayne Gretzky's Canadian finale, drew 304,000
viewers, with a peak of 535,000, the highest viewership in
     CTV SportsNet's six-month history (TORONTO SUN, 4/20).
