ARE THE YANKEES IRKED AT CABLEVISION FOR KNIGHT MOVES?

Cablevision-controlled MSG, which holds Yankees TV and
radio rights and sells signage and sponsorships at Yankee
Stadium, "obliged" Michael Jordan and Nike Chair Phil Knight
by hosting the two for the Yankees home opener against the
Tigers, where Derek Jeter was introduced as MLB's first
Jordan Brand endorser, according to Andy Bernstein of the
SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. The Yankees, who have a $10M a year
marketing deal with adidas, "turned down" Nike's request to
accommodate Jordan and Knight. Yankees VP/Business
Development Joe Perello: "We were surprised by who hosted
them." MSG Exec VP Joe Cohen: "It's good for our business
for our clients to see people like Michael Jordan in our
suite. ... It should not be interpreted as an attempt to
anger anyone" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/19 issue).
ANGELS OF HARLEM: A "number of Mets and Yankees will
film a Nike commercial in Harlem today" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/19).
