ROCKY ROADS AHEAD FOR CART, NASCAR? CO SPEEDWAY DISCUSSED

Rockies co-Owners Jerry McMorris and Charlie Monfort
said Friday they plan to join fellow Rockies co-Owner Dick
Monfort and Coors CEO Pete Coors in talks with Penske
Motorsports Inc. (PMI) about PMI's bid to build a Denver-
area superspeedway, according to Mike Chambers of the DENVER
POST. Charlie Monfort, who acknowledged that his group has
been talking with PMI for a while: "They don't really need
partners. What they're looking for is a Colorado background
and an understanding of the area ... There are still some
political hurdles we have to overcome." Monfort said that a
CO ownership investment would "probably" be between $15-20M
and that the track is "expected" to cost at least $110M.
McMorris noted that a published report about the partnership
last week was premature: "There is a possibility that we
will be a part of this" (DENVER POST, 4/17).
