A NEW APPROACH: DAILY VARIETY's Richard Morgan writes
that Infinity Broadcasting Corp. has formed CBS Radio
Promotions Group "to develop event-marketing and sponsorship
opportunities for advertisers" in its 160 radio-station
group. CBS said that the group "will in many ways be a one-
medium version of its CBS Plus program," which "accommodates
major advertisers by permitting one-stop shopping" across
all seven CBS divisions. One example is taking a single-
sponsor "Yankee Stadium Day" and duplicating the promotion
in other areas around the country (DAILY VARIETY, 4/14).
MORE NOTES: Multiple reports have CBS set to announce
today that Dan Dierdorf will join the network's NFL
broadcast team. Dierdorf will join Verne Lundquist on CBS's
No. 2 team. USA TODAY's Rudy Martzke reports that
Dierdorf's deal "could approach" $1M (USA TODAY, 4/14).
...NESN Operations Dir Bob Whitelaw "assures" the BOSTON
HERALD's Jim Baker that when Fox Sports Net becomes
"exclusively" a Fox Sports Net New England "service here at
year's end," NESN will "be ready with a replacement." Baker
speculates, "ESPN News or CNN-SI?" (BOSTON HERALD, 4/13).
...Liberty Media Group will invest an additional $9M in
N.Y.-based ACTV Inc., which allows viewers to add statistics
and camera angles to televised sporting events. The move
raises Liberty's total stake in ACTV to $14M, or 11% (DENVER
POST, 4/14)....The Weather Channel will provide live on-site
weather updates from this weekend's PGA Tour MCI Classic at
Hilton Head Island, SC. The move is the first in a series
of on-site PGA Tour broadcasts in The Weather Channel's
three-year agreement as "The Official Weather Forecaster of
the PGA Tour, Senior PGA Tour and Nike Tour" (Weather
Channel).....Braves P Tom Glavine has written, "Baseball For
Everybody: Tom Glavine's Guide to America's Game." The
