MEDIA NOTES

In Orlando, Povtak & Diaz reported that Fox Sports Net
Research reported that of the NBA's 24 teams televised by
RSNs, the Magic are first in local Nielsen ratings. The
Sunshine Network's telecasts of Magic games have averaged a
7.4 rating. The Sonics on FSNW are second with a 7.1,
followed by the Rockets on FSSW with a 6.4 (ORLANDO
SENTINEL, 4/10)....In Providence, Bill Reynolds wrote that
NBC's "obvious decision to showcase the Lakers has
backfired, for the simple reason that they're in a microcosm
of everything that's wrong with the NBA." Reynolds: "The
Lakers are an underachieving, selfish team, one that's
testimony to the theory that the NBA after Michael [Jordan]
is a different place" (JOURNAL, 4/10)....In Toronto, William
Houston wrote that CTV SportsNet should "be pleased" with
the early performance of its Blue Jays announcing team of
Rod Black and Joe Carter, as the "two rookies ... for the
most part, did a respectable job" (GLOBE & MAIL, 4/10).
