LEAGUE NOTES

CAVALLI LASHES BACK AT TIMES: Former ABL CEO Gary
Cavalli wrote a Letter to the Editor in Sunday's N.Y. Times
stating that a recent article on the league "was replete
with factual errors and inaccuracies" (See THE DAILY, 4/6).
Cavalli wrote that while he was the league official
"mentioned and attacked" in the article, "no one from The
Times called" to "ask questions or verify the accuracy of
dozens of details that were in error" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/11).
OTHER NOTES: Bruins President Harry Sinden said that if
the Canadian financial situation "doesn't change, you could
see some of those teams going out of business." Sinden:
"You know there is trouble when you see Montreal struggling.
That would be like the New York Yankees struggling down
here" (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/10)....In Dallas, Richard Alm wrote
that the NBA "is having a pretty good year" in terms of
attendance, TV ratings and sponsorships, as after the
lockout, NBA "fans simply haven't run off en masse" (DALLAS
MORNING NEWS, 4/10). But in Tacoma, John McGrath wrote that
while he "gave this weird, truncated season a chance,"
trying to follow all the games "is like trying to watch a
foreign movie in a video arcade -- while talking on the
telephone to a friend whose wife has given him a surprise
     birthday party" (Tacoma NEWS-TRIBUNE, 4/11).
