          MLB is "planning to allow" teams to sell 1-1 1/2" ads
     on the sleeves of jerseys, "perhaps as early as" the '99
     season (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/29 issue)....In a joint
     effort between the MLBP, MLBPA and the four licensed MLB
     card companies, players are again handing out free packs of
     trading cards at spring training games for the second year
     in a row.  Almost 250,000 packs were distributed at all 30
     camps in the past week (SPORTS COLLECTORS DIGEST, 3/29).
     ...Yankees P Orlando Hernandez will "unveil his own line of
     cigars," which will be made by his agent Joe Cubas' father,
     Jose Cubas of Miami (N.Y. POST, 3/28)....Premier Sports
     marketing will handle the multimedia rights for AZ State
     Univ. sports in a five-year deal "reportedly worth" $3.75M
     (AZ REPUBLIC, 3/27)....Horse racing fan Brandon Wilkens, on
     the "Gallery Furniture.com Stakes," which attracted 21,028
     at Turfway Park on Saturday: "Furniture gallery, uh, gallery
     furniture.  And what's that '.com' thing?  Everything is
     something .com now" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 3/28).
