WILL IRL BE DOING CART-WHEELS SOON? GEORGE HINTS AT REUNION
Published March 24, 1999
IMS President/IRL Founder Tony George said that the IRL
and CART need to "get together in some form in the future,"
according to Bill Koenig of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS. The
"conciliatory tone" came after George attended his first
CART event in four years this past weekend as the guest of
NASCAR President Bill France, Jr. at the Miami Grand Prix.
Answering a question at the Indianapolis Rotary Club, George
said that though "some dialogue has taken place" between the
two series, merging the two is "not easy. There are so many
complicated issues that have to be addressed." George added
that CART's "structure as a publicly traded company would
have to be taken into account," though he "didn't
elaborate." George, on a merger: "Certainly we're committed
to that process in the future" (INDY STAR-NEWS, 3/24).
