ANALYSTS DEBATE THE MERITS OF SIMPSON AS SPOKESPERSON

O.J. Simpson's appearance in an ad for Justice Media
law-referral service continues to make the news. This
morning on the "Today" show, NBC's Katie Couric interviewed
John Kelly, the attorney for the family of the late Nicole
Brown, and Stephen Jackson, attorney for Justice Media.
Jackson said Simpson will not be compensated: "He believes
... that our community, the minority community, has been
drastically underserved ... This is his way of trying to
reach out, and trying, in some sense, to give back." Kelly:
"It's no more Mr. Simpson should be a spokesperson for
attorneys than he should be for Swiss Army knives, Isotoner
gloves, or Bruno Magli shoes" ("Today," NBC, 3/18). FSN's
Keith Olbermann: "First person to make a 'Run, O.J., Run'
joke gets indicted" ("Fox Sports News," 3/17). NBC's Jay
Leno: "Well, how bad is your image when you gotta hire O.J.
     to improve it? O.J. doing ads for a 1-800 number... a 911
number maybe, maybe, but an 800 number?" (NBC, 3/17).
