OLYMPIC NOTES

The SYDNEY MORNING HERALD reports this morning that
DaimlerChrysler has "threatened to cut three decades of
financial support for the Olympics," including its
involvement in the 2000 Games, because of the current
scandal. DaimlerChrysler makes Mercedes cars and has been
"providing the Olympics with cash and luxury vehicles since
1964" (S.M. HERALD, 3/10)....The IOC "will examine" News
Ltd.'s contract with Sydney Games (SOCOG) organizers which
gives its newspapers "first coverage rights to the Olympic
torch and ticketing programs" (S.M. HERALD, 3/10).
EXPULSIONS? In Chicago, Philip Hersh reports that
expulsion "will be recommended for no more" than two of the
19 IOC members still under investigation in the Salt Lake
City scandal. Both Hersh and AROUND THE RINGS quote sources
who say that Western Samoan member Seiuli Paul Wallwork will
be expelled (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/10, AROUND THE RINGS, 3/9).
