ESPN CHILTON POLL EXAMINES THE CHANGE IN FAN ACTIVITY

          This week, the ESPN Chilton Sports Poll examines the     average size of fan activity for the twelve sports that     account for nearly 80% of all fan activity in the U.S.      Sports included are the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA basketball     and football, pro golf, tennis, soccer, figure skating, auto     racing and boxing.  Two changes are shown: January '98     compared with January '99 and December '98 with January '99.           Last month, ESPN Chilton Poll Index presented a Sports     Fan Index in THE DAILY showing the sum interest for the top     twelve sports declining 2.4% from '97 to '98.
