WILL STRIKE INTERRUPT "HNIC"? JOE CARTER RETURNS TO THE JAYS

A Canadian judge "upheld an injunction yesterday" that
prohibits the striking CBC technicians union from setting up
picket lines "close to" the Air Canada Centre for Saturday's
game against the Panthers, according to Laura Bobak of the
TORONTO SUN. The decision means that CBC is "free to
broadcast" the game from the arena if it "chooses to do so."
A network spokesperson said the CBC "still hasn't decided
what to do as of last night" (TORONTO SUN, 2/26).
CARTER'S NEW ROLE: In Toronto, Chris Zelkovich reports
that CTV SportsNet named Joe Carter as its new MLB analyst.
Carter: "I'll tell things the way they are, but without
criticizing people. This gives me a chance to root for my
old team. Hey, I can be a homer and root for the Jays." In
other news, Zelkovich reports that this year's Super Bowl
broadcast on Global TV attracted 3,399,000 Canadian viewers,
a 5% increase over last year making it "the largest Super
Bowl in Canadian TV history" (TORONTO STAR, 2/26).
