HAWAII FIVE-0-0-0-0-0-0: NEW CART RACE HAS RECORD PURSE

The winner of the proposed CART Hawaiian Super Prix
will receive $5M, with $10M in total prize money making it
"the largest purse in motorsports history," according to
Robin Miller of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS. The race, which
would be available to viewers via PPV, is "expected" to be
held on an airport course outside Honolulu on November 13,
two weeks after the conclusion of CART's regular season
(INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 2/25). The official announcement
is scheduled for today and USA TODAY's Steve Ballard writes
that the event promoters "expect to recoup their investment"
through ticket sales, PPV rights and two "soon-to-be-named"
corporate sponsors. The race, which Ballard calls "short on
tradition but is long on loot," will feature a field limited
to the top 12 drivers in CART's rankings (USA TODAY, 2/25).
