THE GAME MUST GO ON FOR CBC: NETWORK TO USE NHL FEED AGAIN

The CBC "is preparing" to call Saturday's Panthers-
Maple Leafs game "from a studio" in Long Island due to the
continuing technicians strike, according to Chris Zelkovich
of the TORONTO STAR. Insiders say that SportsChannel FL
will hire a freelance crew to work the broadcast from the
Air Canada Centre and then "turn over its feed" to the NHL.
As the league did last week, it will then feed the sound and
pictures to "Hockey Night In Canada" in a separate studio,
and "HNIC" announcers Bob Cole and Harry Neale will call the
game off monitors in Long Island. CBC's coverage of last
week's Canadiens-Maple Leafs game drew an audience of 1.5
million, about 300,000 more than the season average, but
"almost half a million less than the previous week's final
game at Maple Leaf Gardens" (TORONTO STAR, 2/24).
