THE SUNIL COME OUT TOMORROW? GULATI'S JOB TO BE REVIEWED

MLS Deputy Commissioner Sunil Gulati "may lose his job
amid accusations of abuse of power in regard" to the renewal
of MetroStars Tab Ramos' contract, "without the consent" of
MetroStars Investor/Operator Stuart Subotnick, according to
ESPN THE MAGAZINE's Jeff Bradley on ESPN.com. Subotnick
"was reportedly irate when he learned" that Gulati picked up
the league-held option year of Ramos' contract. The move
meant Ramos, injured for most of the last two seasons, would
continue to earn the league's maximum salary of $250,000 in
'99, even though the MetroStars have "huge salary cap
problems." Gulati will have his future determined by MLS
Commissioner Doug Logan at a league management committee
meeting today in Dallas. A league source said that with
"key" operators Philip Anschutz and Lamar Hunt "on his side,
Gulati is unlikely to be fired by Logan" (ESPN.com, 2/21).
But in DC, two sources of Steven Goff said that Logan "is
backing Subotnick in the feud" and may "ask for Gulati's
     resignation today" (WASHINGTON POST, 2/22).
