NFLPA CUTS COMMISSIONS; IS COMBINE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD?

The NFLPA "notified about 350 agents" that it had
agreed to "cut the maximum commission that an agent could
make from 4% to 3%," according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of
the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. At one point during the
meeting in Indianapolis, the agents began chanting, "4%, 4%,
4%." NJ-based agent Everette Scott: "If this keeps up,
pretty soon they are going to have us down to 1%." The
agents were also notified that they would no longer "have a
guarantee" of a 1% minimum (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 2/19).
COACHES SPEAK: In Orlando, Larry Guest wrote that of
the 50 NFL coaches attending the scouting combine, 34 told
the Orlando Sentinel that "they would prefer the event be
moved" to Disney's Sports Complex. The three-day combine is
in the final year of its contract with the RCA Dome (ORLANDO
SENTINEL, 2/21)....In Denver, Alex Marvez wrote that NFL
owners will discuss a proposal "to improve the lot of
assistant coaches" at next month's owners meetings in AZ,
The coaches could begin receiving "improved financial and
medical benefits" before the start of next season. However,
if there is no deal, "there is a good chance that assistants
will consider going on strike" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 2/21).
