IHL Grizzlies' co-Owners David Elmore and Donna Tuttle
are part of a group of local investors who announced UT's
entry into the World Indoor Soccer League (WISL), according
to Jody Genessy of the DESERET NEWS. The yet-to-be-named
team will play its home games at the E Center beginning in
July. The WISL currently has six other North American
teams, with expansion "more than likely to happen again even
before this summer." An Anaheim group "is close to securing
a deal" with The Pond, and St. Louis is building a facility
that "will probably be ready" in 2000 (DESERET NEWS, 2/17).
Also part of the UT ownership group is CA-based Let's Play
Sports Senior VP Gaylen Jorgensen, who will serve as the
team's GM. Let's Play Sports owns and operates 16 indoor
soccer facilities in the Southwest (WISL). In Salt Lake,
Brett Prettyman writes that RHI "had planned" to launch a
team in UT, but Dan Kotler, who owns the rights to a UT
roller hockey team, said that the E Center had "most of
their dates ... tied up with soccer" (S.L. TRIBUNE, 2/18).
