HBO ENTERS THE RING WITH THE MAN NOW KNOWN AS PRINCE

HBO has acquired worldwide TV rights for featherweight-
championship fights featuring boxer Prince Naseem Hamed.
Under the new agreement, the first fight will be the Hamed-
Paul Ingle bout on April 10 from England (HBO). The
HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Stephen Battaglio puts the deal at $5-
8M per bout, making Hamed "the highest-paid fighter ever in
his weight class." Hamed is "guaranteed" a fee for U.S.
broadcasts and will "split revenue" with HBO for int'l sales
(HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 2/17). Hamed's next two fights will be
held in the U.S., with the second one coming this summer,
"probably" in N.Y. or Las Vegas (USA TODAY, 2/17).
PPV NUMBERS: In N.Y., Don Kaplan wrote that Top Rank's
Bob Arum, who promoted the Oscar De La Hoya-Ike Quartey
fight, "predicted" it "may have generated" about 730,000 PPV
buys, or about $29M in gross, making it the "second-most
watched" De La Hoya PPV fight ever (N.Y. POST, 2/16).
