LEAGUE NOTES

Organizers of the proposed home-and-home exhibition
series between the Orioles and a team of Cuban All-Stars
this spring "are pessimistic" the games will be played.
Sources said that the "major issue now ... apparently is
strong opposition within the U.S. government" (WASHINGTON
POST, 2/11)....The Worldwide Senior Tennis Tour, formerly
the Nuveen Tour, is scheduled to hold 23 events in '99 --
after starting with three during its '93 inaugural year --
and prize money "has risen to over" $3.6M (Worldwide Tour).
...In the WNBA's recently released '99 schedule, the Liberty
leads the league with 11 national TV appearances, split on
NBC, ESPN and Lifetime. The league will also hold its first
All-Star Game on July 14, with a site to be determined, but
sources told the Cleveland PLAIN-DEALER that MSG is the
     likely locale (Cleveland PLAIN-DEALER, 2/10).
