DODGER TOWN GOES BACK TO THE FUTURE WITH NEW UNIFORM LOOK

The Dodgers introduced new uniforms for the upcoming
season which include commemorative patches "featuring many
of the franchise's greatest players," according to Jason
Reid of the L.A. TIMES. The team's uniforms will feature
"Los Angeles" on the front of the road jerseys in an
"attempt to strengthen its identification with the city."
Likenesses of former players Roy Campanella, Jackie Robinson
and Don Drysdale will be displayed on patches sewn on
uniform sleeves, and each player will select the patch he
will wear. In another effort to "celebrate the ballclub's
rich tradition," the team will honor former players in
pregame ceremonies during the season, and a "new outfield
mural will further depict former stars in their greatest
moments." Dodgers VP/Marketing Barry Stockhamer: "There are
very few teams ... that are in a position to do something
like this. We can because of our unique history, and this
is definitely the right thing to do." Stockhamer said that
he hopes the moves will ease fans' concerns about the Fox
Group's plans for the Dodgers. Stockhamer: "In every
conversation I've had with Fox, they've been very supportive
of everything we've tried to do. They want to keep that
legacy [of the team's history] alive" (L.A. TIMES, 2/10).
