TOUR PLAYERS ASSOCIATION MEETING DRAW 16 IN ARIZONA

The Tour Players Association (TPA) held an informal
meeting January 26 in Scottsdale, AZ, in front of "only" 16
players, as it "continues to struggle in search for momentum
and traction," according to Brian Hewitt of GOLFWEEK.
Present at the meeting were former NBAers Bill Russell and
Oscar Robertson, Padres 1B Wally Joyner, NFLPA attorney Dick
Berthelsen and lawyer Leonard Decof, and their message for
those in attendance was that pro golfers "should be getting
a bigger piece of the revenue pie." One source said the TPA
"still has not signed one player from the top 30 off last
year's money list." One Top-30 player said the TPA may have
success recruiting the Tour's top players if it could make
the four majors raise their purses (GOLFWEEK, 2/6).
