MORE HICKS AT THE RODEO: DALLAS STAR ACQUIRES NEW PROPERTY

Stars and Rangers Owner Tom Hicks has "agreed to buy
the Mesquite Rodeo for about" $8M, "adding another piece to
his sports portfolio and another programming option for his
planned broadcasting venture," according to Mitchell
Schnurman of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. Hicks said that
the rodeo, held Friday and Saturday nights from April to
October, will "complement" his teams "because it appeals to
a similar audience." That will "enable his company to
market the three sports to corporate sponsors and
advertisers as a package." Hicks' broadcasting venture,
Southwest Sports Group, will eventually televise all his
sports properties. Hicks cited rodeo's strong cable TV
ratings as key. Among the Mesquite Rodeo's owners is the
family of former Mavericks Owner Donald Carter. The rodeo
     draws more than 200,000 a season (STAR-TELEGRAM, 1/29).
