SYNDICATION HIGHWAY: SCOTT BROTHERS OFFER CART DRAMA SERIES

"Days of Thunder" director Tony Scott and his brother
Ridley, owners of Scott Free Productions, have become part
of a syndicated racing drama series which focuses on the
Newman-Hass CART team, according to Michael Fleming of DAILY
VARIETY. The series, to be presented at the National Assoc.
of TV Programming Exec Convention (NATPE), is the creation
of Producer Neil Russell and the production group hopes to
begin signing domestic and foreign TV deals "shortly."
Tony Scott "plans to direct" the pilot episode while Ridley
is "hoping" to direct "an episode or two." Russell and
Scott Free "plan to exploit an alliance" with the Newman-
Haas team to "provide actual footage as the backdrop for the
hourlong fictionalized drama." It would also allow for
cameos from drivers Michael Andretti and Christian
Fittipaldi. Paul Newman could also "appear as himself" from
"time to time" (DAILY VARIETY, 1/27).
