LET'S CALL THIS BASSCAR? COMPETITIVE FISHING LURES SPONSORS

In next month's Walmart-FLW fishing tournament run by
Operation Bass, ten boats will feature colors of "non-
traditional outdoor-sports sponsors" like Fujifilm, Land O
Lakes and Timex, according to USA TODAY's J. Taylor Buckley,
who calls the boats the "floating cousins to NASCAR's
legendary speeding billboards." Other companies supporting
the event include Citgo, Coleman camping gear, Ever-Start
batteries, AT&T, Black & Decker, Uniroyal and Eveready.
Operation Bass Chair Irwin Jacobs "won't disclose" how much
the sponsors are paying. Competitors wearing the sponsors'
colors will receive $1,000. Jacobs: "Now we have some of
the sizzle we need to get people to look at competitive
fishing as entertainment" (USA TODAY, 1/26).
