LEAGUE NOTES

The Orioles and Red Sox "plan to send several coaches
and players" to train Greek players at the conclusion of the
'99 MLB season. Also, MLB's Commissioner's Office has
"offered to help refurbish" several baseball fields on an
abandoned U.S. military base outside Athens, Greece (BOSTON
GLOBE, 1/26)....GOLFWEEK's Jeff Rude writes that Michael
Jordan should be involved with the PGA Tour "to broaden" its
popularity. Rude: "Let the brainstorming begin in [PGA Tour
Commissioner] Tim Finchem's office. ... Give him sponsor
exemptions. ... Let him underwrite and play on an MJ mini-
tour. Think of something" (GOLFWEEK, 1/23)....In Cleveland,
Bill Livingston called it "very cool" when NBA Commissioner
David Stern appeared on the "Late Show" recently.
Livingston: "It restores my faith in the NBA as the hippest
league around. ... Stern now definitely qualifies as a dude.
... The NBA needs to look like it's having fun again, even
at its own expense" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 1/25).
