BUD LIGHTS UP THE NBA; MILLER PLEASED WITH LOCAL PLAN

          Anheuser-Busch has signed a multi-year agreement to
make Budweiser the domestic and global "Official Beer
Sponsor" of the NBA. The deal provides Budweiser the use
all of NBA marks and logos (A-B). In N.Y., Beatty & Lublin
report that the deal "includes a new component that involves
the uses" of logo rights abroad. A-B spends an "estimated"
$400M annually on sports marketing and sports-related media
(WALL STREET JOURNAL, 1/21). Although Miller Brewing opted
not to renew its NBA league-wide sponsorship, it will remain
a sponsor of 13 NBA teams, including the Bulls. Miller is
in talks with NBC and Turner for an NBA ad buy this season.
Miller spokesperson Scott Bussen said that despite forgoing
the league-wide agreement, "We will remain active in the
NBA" (Tom Daykin, MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/21).
