EXPOS GET NEEDED BREAK? REPAIR TO THE BIG O ROOF TO BE $$

The collapsed portion of Olympic Stadium's new roof,
not including money to repair it, will cost "considerably
more than" C$10M, according to Kalogerakis & Myles of the
Montreal GAZETTE. The stadium has been "ordered" to close
for at least a month. Officials "don't know yet how much it
will cost to repair the roof," but taxpayers will not have
to "foot the bill." Olympic Installations Board President
Andre Tetreault said that Birdair, the U.S. firm that built
the C$37M roof, "will pay for whatever repairs are needed."
The Expos "are hoping" the roof problems "will be solved" by
the time they start the MLB season in April. Expos Chair
Jacques Menard said he's become "immune to these curves that
get thrown" at the team (GAZETTE, 1/20). In Montreal, Jack
Todd writes that "Olympic Stadium is finished" and suggests
"junking it for parts" (GAZETTE, 1/20). A Montreal GAZETTE
editorial states, "OK, this is it. It's time to toss in the
towel, give it up, tear the place down" (GAZETTE, 1/20).
