JORDAN'S RETIREMENT CREATES A STIR IN THE PUBLISHING WORLD

SI will publish a special issue to commemorate Michael
Jordan's retirement. The 124-page edition, titled "Michael
Jordan -- A Tribute...From the Pages of SI," will be
available on newsstands January 15 (SI).
SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE: Jordan's retirement prompted People
magazine to issue a "split" cover, its second in history.
The Midwest will get the January 25 issue with Jordan on the
cover while the rest of the U.S. will receive the scheduled
cover, Prince Edward's engagement (USA TODAY, 1/14).
RANDOM HOUSE TO PUSH HALBERSTAM'S BOOK: Random House
had planned to ship out David Halberstam's new book,
"Playing for Keeps: Michael Jordan and the World He Made,"
on February 1. But the company will push up distribution
and it will arrive in Chicago-area stores this weekend and
be released nationwide by next week (USA TODAY, 1/15).
