CRAIG MASBACK UNDER FIRE FOR "SCRAMBLING" ON TRACK MEETS

Indoor track is "being revived" by a TV presence,
including a three-meet circuit on NBC, according to USA
TODAY's Dick Patrick. But some "late scrambling" by the
USATF "bothers some meet promoters and agents." USATF plans
to announce the NBC deal next week, but the governing body
has been "criticized for poor communication." An event was
scheduled for February in Boston, but it has been canceled,
and execs are trying to arrange it for Fairfax, VA. Boston
Commonwealth Invitational Dir Bill Clark: "If they haven't
got their act together at this late date, (the series) is an
act of desperation." Agent Renaldo Nehemiah said he didn't
learn about the VA meet until Thursday: "I want this to
work. But if they keep losing credibility, they could lose
the support of high-profile clients." USATF CEO Craig
Masback said, "There will be more track, indoor and outdoor
on TV this year than ever before" (USA TODAY, 1/15).
