MEDIA NOTES

In L.A., Steve Pratt reviewed the Baseball Hall of Fame
Web site at www.baseballhalloffame.org and called it the
"next best thing" to being there (L.A. TIMES, 1/13)....With
the return of the NBA, NBC has "killed its deal" to air a
WCW special on February 14 (ELECTRONIC MEDIA, 1/11 issue).
NEVER CRY WOLF: Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell took
exception to Packers GM Ron Wolf saying "you can't have any
worse situation than be in Philadelphia, PA, and be either a
manager or coach," when introducing new coach Ray Rhodes.
In a letter to Wolf, Rendell called his remarks a
"gratuitous cheap shot at the fans and the city." Rendell:
"We can look at this as a little bit of a joke, but Ron
Wolf's statement is carried on ESPN all over the country.
ESPN probably won't carry my letter, but I hope they do"
(PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 1/14). ESPN.com has posted
excerpts of the letter, in which Rendell states that Wolf's
comments were "classless, clueless, and crass" and he "must
reluctantly conclude" that Wolf is "a jerk" (THE DAILY).
