NCAA PUTS THE KIBOSH ON BASEBALL CARD OF MI QB

Upper Deck "agreed to stop production" of a baseball
card, which features Univ. of MI QB and minor league
baseball player Drew Henson, after Henson's family "pointed
out a conflict with NCAA rules," according to Cotsonika &
Sipple of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. NCAA Dir of Membership
Services Athena Yiamouyiannis said that although Henson is
allowed "to play professional baseball while remaining an
amateur in football," NCAA rules prohibit "companies such as
Upper Deck to profit off his image." Upper Deck stopped
production of the card "immediately" upon the Henson's
request to do so, but cards that were already produced and
distributed "can't be recalled." The card, which has been
on the market for about two weeks, is selling on the
Internet for "as much as" $5, and "it might grow even more
valuable as supplies dwindle" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 1/13).
