NAMES IN THE NEWS

          MN Gov. JESSE VENTURA has "no problem" with scalpers
     illegally selling tickets to sports events: "I find it's a
     victimless crime.  Everyone walks away with a smile on their
     face.  Then who's the victim?" (AP, 1/9)....Former
     Georgetown Univ. men's basketball coach JOHN THOMPSON cited
     personal reasons for his resignation on Friday: "I am going
     through a divorce which has become a problem and I have to
     address that" (WASHINGTON POST, 1/9).  A WASHINGTON POST
     editorial, on Thompson: "Over a quarter a century his
     players had a nearly perfect graduation rate, and until
     recently none had ever left early for the pros.  A bluff,
     outspoken, sometimes difficult man, Mr. Thompson had the
     sort of forceful personality needed to make academics a
     serious matter in his program" (WASHINGTON POST, 1/9).
     ...Devil Rays Managing Gen. Parnter VINCE NAIMOLI was named
     outstanding business leader of the year by Northwood (FL)
     Univ. (USA TODAY, 1/11)....USA Hockey National Team
     Development Program Manager of Communications & Marketing
     BRIAN FISHMAN, 28, passed away Thursday at his home in MI. 
     His death has been ruled accidental and appears to have been
     caused by carbon monoxide poisoning (USA Hockey).
