REALLY HAD TO MOVE: ADIDAS TO MOVE TO NORTH PORTLAND

adidas America will "move its more than 500 employees"
from Beaverton, OR, to North Portland according to Jeff
Manning of the Portland OREGONIAN. The company has "agreed
to lease" the former Bass Kaiser Medical Center, which it
"hopes" to move into by September 2000, and "will soon
     launch" a $25M renovation of the 215,000-square-foot
facility. adidas America CEO Steve Wynne, who said that
employment at the company "could double to 1,000 not too
long after" the move: "In keeping with the character of this
company, we aspire to create a place that will become part
of the fabric of the community, rather than separating
ourselves from the world around us." Manning wrote that
this comment "seemed to be a thinly veiled reference to
archrival" Nike. The company "intends to be the sole
tenant" of the facility, which will be about 600,000-square-
feet after renovations (Jeff Manning, OREGONIAN, 12/19).
