COPYCATS: CFL TO POSSIBLY LOOK INTO INSTANT REPLAY

CFL head referee Ross Perrier said that he "expects"
that he will "eventually be questioned" about instant replay
by the league's board of governors, according to the CP's
Dan Ralph. CFL CEO Jeff Giles said that "he doubts" the CFL
will adopt replay. Giles: "We haven't discussed it much,
and I think what has stopped us from discussing it is cost.
I don't know if it's even something that's on the agenda for
us." Ralph notes that replay may not be adopted because the
CFL "isn't riddled with controversial calls" (CP, 12/18).
ATTENDANCE NOTE: The CFL drew 1,627,339 fans during the
'98 season, a 6.1% increase over the '97 attendance of
1,533,228. Montreal and Hamilton saw attendance increases
of 68.5% and 42.8%, respectively. Only British Columbia
(-21.6%) and Saskatchewan (-10.5%) saw decreases (CFL).
