If AZ developer Sam Grossman's bid to buy the Redskins
is successful, former coach Joe Gibbs said he "would serve
as a consultant on any topic Grossman wanted," according to
Liz Clarke of the WASHINGTON POST. Gibbs, in an interview
yesterday at his race shop, said that he and Grossman "have
not discussed" a possible title for Gibbs, but that he would
"not assume" the day-to-day duties of a GM and would remain
in NC, where his auto racing teams are based. Gibbs has yet
to disclose what his "prospective share" of the team would
be if Grossman's bid is approved by trustees of Jack Kent
Cooke's estate, as well as by three-fourths of NFL owners,
and said that it "was a matter between him and Grossman."
Gibbs, on whether he might become the Redskins' Dir of
Football Operations: "No. I don't picture myself being in
that role at all. My role will be on a consulting basis."
He also said he does not see himself coaching again. Gibbs
said he "never heard" from team President John Cooke about
joining his bid: "This situation, like I said, was not one
where John Kent Cooke had asked me to be involved. Other
people were talking to me" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/15).
