NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said the league
"probably will" have instant replay next season, but the
"question's going to be whether it's a coaches' challenge
system or some other type of system," according to USA
TODAY's Steve Hershey. The NFL's Competition Committee will
discuss replay on Tuesday, but it is "unlikely to make any
changes this late in the year" (USA TODAY, 12/14).
LEAGUE PUSHED DEBATE BACK TO THE OWNERS: In N.Y., Gary
Myers wrote that talk of replay returning this season "won't
even come to a vote." Myers added that it was "surprising
the NFL went public Monday with its plan to attempt to get
replay in for the playoffs when it didn't have the votes."
One source said last week's events "were either a public
relations ploy or an all-time botch." But it "shifted focus
from bad calls to replay and made it seem as if the NFL was
not sitting still" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/13).
NFL EUROPE IN ORLANDO: NFL Europe will conduct its
preseason training camp in Orlando next spring. The camp,
to "be anchored" at the FL Citrus Bowl, was staged last
spring in Atlanta (Larry Guest, ORLANDO SENTINEL, 12/12).
