OWNING UP IN INDY: JIM IRSAY MAKING HIS OWN LEGACY

Colts Owner JIM IRSAY was profiled by Sean Horgan of
the INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, who wrote that Irsay did not
have it "simple" being the son of ROBERT IRSAY, who was at
times "overbearing" and "cruel," but it could "explain" how
his "passions can run from the genteel -- music, poetry and
spirituality" -- to NFL football." Former Colts coach RON
MEYER: "Bob had to die for Jim to come of age. That's a
hell of a thing to say, but living under that yoke was
impossible." When his father died, Jim had to sort out the
"mess" of "underachieving," non-football businesses that he
inherited, and sell more than a dozen commercial properties
in Houston, Chicago and Indianapolis. Today he says he "is
looking to expand the Irsay empire into areas that
complement the NFL franchise" such as another sports
franchise or media properties, though the Colts are his
     "primary focus" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 11/29).
