LEAGUE NOTES

          In Toronto, Tim Harper reported that a House of Commons
     Subcommittee on the Study of Sport in Canada will recommend
     that Canadian teams be eligible for tax breaks "if they can
     show they are providing substantial revenues to their
     communities, but need some help to continue."  The Committee
     report is expected next week and will be forwarded to
     Finance Minister Paul Martin for "his consideration in
     advance of his budget, expected in February" (TORONTO STAR,
     11/27)....In DC, Michael Wilbon noted that suspensions for
     "dangerous offenses are way up" under new NHL Senior
     VP/Hockey Operations Colin Campbell.  Wilbon: "Finally, the
     NHL appears to be seriously cracking down on ... thuggery"
     (WASHINGTON POST, 11/28)....USA TODAY's Hal Bodley noted
     that MLB's Player Relations Committee is now called MLB's
     Labor Relations Department.  Also, MLB Commissioner Bud
     Selig will leave his County Stadium offices for new offices
     in downtown Milwaukee on January 30 (USA TODAY, 11/27).

     Koplovitz has joined the WTA Tour Board of Directors (WTA).
