GRIZZLIES LOSING MONEY; MINNESOTA MISSING THE TARGET

While Canucks Owner John McCaw reported a loss of
C$36.6M last week for the twelve months ended June '98, the
report also represented the Grizzlies' first financial
statement since they entered the league in the '95-96
season, according to Lowell Ullrich of the Vancouver
PROVINCE. Grizzlies VP/Business Operations Dave Cobb said
that after recording a profit of "at least" C$4M through the
first two seasons, the team "dropped" C$5-7M after "building
debt and depreciation." The Grizzlies did receive "an
installment" on the US$22.75M they will receive as part of
the NBA's TV package, but Cobb "wouldn't say if that would
cover losses" should the season be canceled. Ullrich: "That
leaves the Grizzlies as no better than a break-even
proposition since they began" (Vancouver PROVINCE, 11/18).
OFF TARGET: In Minneapolis, Target Center Exec Dir Dana
Warg said that the arena has already lost "about" $600,000
in income during the lockout and the loss would total $1.6M
if the season is canceled (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 11/20).
