FINANCE NOTES

ESPN MAGAZINE's Malcolm Fitch looks at the stock market
as it relates to sports, noting that publicly-traded teams
and sports-related companies "would be fine if it wasn't for
one small glitch: Big bucks have been squandered by
investors who think that sports savvy can translate into
investing smarts." Noting the suspension of the NFL bond
offering, Fitch writes, "Sports fans-turned-investors should
act with similar humility. It's one thing to buy a few
shares of the Nuggets or the Tribe because you want to say
you own a piece of a pro team. But it would be a mistake to
confuse a knack for drafting Rotisserie players with a
talent for picking stocks" (ESPN MAGAZINE, 11/30 issue)....
Broadcast.com agreed to acquire San Diego-based Web page
provider Simple Network Communications for $20.75M in stock
(BLOOMBERG NEWS, 11/18)....Seahawks/Blazers Owner Paul Allen
     made a $54M investment in Ziff-Davis' 24-hour cable channel,
which focuses on the Internet (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 11/18).
