"REAL SPORTS" MAY GO MONTHLY; "BREAKING THROUGH" IS THROUGH

HBO is "considering the possibility" of making its
"Real Sports" a monthly series beginning in January,
according to Langdon Brockinton of the SPORTSBUSINESS
JOURNAL. "Real Sports" currently airs every other month.
In other HBO news, HBO Sports Senior VP & Exec Producer Ross
Greenburg said that a 90-minute special entitled "Dare to
Compete: The Struggle of Women in Sports" will debut in
March. HBO will also televise a documentary on the '68
Summer Games and a one-hour special on Howard Cosell in '99
(Langdon Brockinton, SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/16 issue).
LIFETIME REASSESSES SPORTS STRATEGY: Brockinton also
reports that Lifetime's "Breaking Through" sports-magazine
show "will not return" for '99. Lifetime VP/Sports Brian
Donlon: "The company has decided that we've made our mark in
women's sports with events." But Donlon said that he is
looking to "come up with another type of show to tackle
women's sports issues." "Breaking Through" debuted in '97
and Brockinton adds that it "never produced blockbuster
ratings." Among Lifetime households, it averaged a 0.5
     rating (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/16 issue).
