SELIG MEETS WITH GMS IN NAPLES OVER SPENDING HABITS

11.13.1998

          MLB Commissioner Bud Selig met privately with MLB's GMs
     to address the "worsening situation" of "out-of-control"
     spending among MLB teams, according to USA TODAY's Hal
     Bodley.  Bodley writes that it's "becoming clear
     management's hard line that prompted the devastating 1994-95
     strike accomplished nothing."  Of MLB's 30 teams, 23 are
     "expected" to report losses from the '98 season, which
     Bodley writes indicates that MLB is in "worse financial
     shape today than before the walkout" (USA TODAY, 11/13).
