END OF AN ERA AS O'MALLEY CONFIRMS HE WILL LEAVE DODGERS

Dodgers CEO Peter O'Malley "will sever his ties with
the club at the end of the year," according to Steve
Springer of the L.A. TIMES. Springer: "This would figure to
be a sad time for O'Malley, who ... is leaving at a time
when his dream of putting pro football back in Los Angeles
seems to be close to reality, but with others in the owners'
seat." O'Malley and Dodgers President Bob Graziano spent a
year "trying to pave the way" for an NFL stadium, but city
execs asked O'Malley to "throw his support behind" the
Coliseum group. O'Malley: "It was a big disappointment.
But there's an old saying that you don't fight city hall"
(L.A. TIMES, 10/30). O'Malley said that he "was lining up
investors, including Fox, to cover" the $500M expansion fee,
and that one of his reasons for selling the Dodgers was his
inability to compete for a team (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 10/30).
